This is a group for science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers with strong Minnesota ties. We range from writers just starting out to authors with multi-book deals (see below). We're here to encourage you to write, improve your craft, and submit your stories! The members of our group are a friendly and productive bunch. What are our meetups like?
We usually have a craft topic discussion or presentation, followed by another meetup session devoted to critiques (you can go to one or the other or both). Want to learn about a particular topic? Let us know! Our meetings include presentations from notable local authors, instructors at The Loft Literary Center, and roundtable discussions of interesting topics.
Writers of all skill levels, genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, sizes, physical ability levels, religions, and political viewpoints are welcome. We ask that everyone be respectful and treat each other the way that they would wish to be treated.What else do we offer?
* A St. Paul branch (ESP) for those who find it more convenient than Minneapolis. You are welcome to attend either or both.
* An active presence at local conventions. Don't know anyone? We can fix that! We also do kaffee klatches with successful local authors like Patricia C. Wrede, Pamela Dean or Lois McMaster Bujold.
* WordBrew, a successful annual showcase for local science fiction and fantasy writers.
* A place for members to share our successes and publicize our events and new releases.
* The Speculations Reading Series at Dreamhaven Books. The Speculations Reading Series features local authors, provides a cookies and soda reception, and is always followed up by a casual gathering afterwards for beer and pizza, which many local SF pros attend.
* Movie nights.
* Other fun events--collect 'em all!
You can get an idea of what our meetings are like by listening to podcasts of a couple of them here: http://www.meetup.com/MinnSpec/messages/boards/thread/22420402
