Just retired after working at an answering service from home for several years where I wrote a grammar column called “Words R Us” for the employee newsletter. Worked as a reporter for a weekly newspaper for a couple of years. My writing runs the gamut of science fiction, fantasy, suspense, humor, noir flash, bucolic flash about gardening. I haven't done horror yet, but intend to. My goal is to write novels and have half a Young Adult novel as a result of participating in 2011 NaNoWriMo. Recently I finished a short story of over 10K words.
I've tried many groups before this. A few have been very good but have either not lasted or have been filled with hobbyists. I believe I'm producing writing that's publishable, and I need more authoritative critique and the succor of rubbing elbows with serious writers. Ego boosting is good, but I'm seeking more in-depth critiques.
I've always written one way or another, when I was a teen it was mostly angst poetry. My writing runs the gamut of lenth and type. My first love has always been SF&F. I'm a first-time winner of NaNoWriMo 2011.
I love this group! There are members at every stage in their writing endeavors. Everybody I've met has been forthcoming and helpful. The site is full of resources.
