One of the most important aspects of working with Cassandra is how you choose to model your data. Starting out, I found it extremely helpful to see and talk about how others were crafting queries to solve the real-world challenges encountered when developing a non-trivial Cassandra application. Kinetic Data redeveloped the core of our web-based "forms and workflow" platform on top of Cassandra in 2015, and it has been running in production as an on-prem and SaaS solution since March of 2016. This talk will explore some of platform's more interesting data modeling examples including our approach to partial updates, normalization, sorting results by a frequently updated column, and "data driven" schemas.

About the Speaker Ben Christenson is the Tech Lead at Kinetic Data. He has worked as member of the Kinetic Data development team for the last 19 years, where he currently acts as the Cassandra subject matter expert. Ben is 2 months away from his 5 year anniversary attending the Twin Cities Cassandra meetup.
