This is a poetry group meant to aid in the refinement of technique and style in metered verse composition. Using the canonical poets as models, our goal is to help members develop a mastery of different verse forms and use this saturation as a cornerstone for the emergence of an individual aesthetic style. The group meets weekly and there is a prompt poem in advance of each meeting. Members will write a response poem in the same meter as the prompt (though not necessarily on the same subject or in the same style) and each poem will be read at the meeting. At the end of each session, the members will collectively determine which poem is deemed the most effective. The author of this poem will then have the responsibility of providing the prompt poem for the next session. Membership is open to all, though an acquaintance with English poetical literature and metrical styles is encouraged.
