Saint Paul Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the pilot year of Hike It!, a new interpretive hike program at Lilydale Regional Park. We have been invited (courtesy of Kelley, the park's Education Coordinator and MNA Meetup member) to help kick the program off, and are being offered the first opportunity to participate in these hikes.
Hike It! program overview:
Did you know that Lilydale Regional Park was once a bustling town along the Mississippi River? Today, nature has reclaimed this beautiful park that boasts oak woodlands, floodplain forests and prairies, and a fascinating human and natural history. Volunteer interpreters will bring the park’s fascinating past to life on a one-hour hike from the river bottom up to Bruce Vento Overlook. Participants will hike back down the trail, on their own, after the hike concludes at the overlook.
To make sure this is an intimate and quality experience the hike will be limited to 20 participants, so please RSVP early. Children/Families are encouraged to come but please note that this is a moderately strenuous hike and a short portion is steep.
Cost is: FREE
People will need to bring:
-Sturdy closed toe shoes (like tennis shoes) that you don't mind getting a bit dirty if the trail is wet (hiking boots not a prerequisite)
-No flimsy shoes (such as flip-flops)
-Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather.
The hike will take place rain or shine (only severe weather, such as thunderstorms, hail, etc. will cancel the hike)
Hope to see you there!
