If you crave casual yet intelligent conversation about important issues with other nonbelievers, then join us at Caribou Coffee on Snelling Avenue North in St. Paul (across from the Har Mar Mall) on Thursday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. This Meetup is organized around issues explored in a recent BBC documentary (see below), and you are invited to share your knowledge and ideas.

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/f/a/8/event_94400392.jpegThe recently aired BBC Horizon documentary that inspired this Meetup is misleadingly titled "Playing God." The host, geneticist Dr. Adam Rutherford, provides a tour of some of the very latest (and absolutely amazing) advances in his field. From genetically modified goats that produce a spider's silk stronger than Kevlar, to Dr. Craig Venter's progress in creating synthetic DNA able to spawn “the first self-replicating species we’ve had on the planet whose parent is a computer,” to research into creating biological machines that might one day be used to cure mental illness, this program starts out with the fascinating and builds to the mind-blowing (the examples given here are just the beginning). Watch it by clicking on the link below:

Other sources of information than this documentary are welcome, but if you skip the video you will feel left out of much of the conversation. Please watch—your fifty-nine minutes will be well spent!

For an article by Dr. Rutherford covering some (but not nearly all) of the topics in the documentary, go to:

Questions will be provided to spur our meeting of minds, with your host moderating to be sure that everyone gets a chance to voice their opinions. We must limit attendance to no more than 14, so be sure to update your RSVP if your plans change. We have the meeting room until 9:00 p.m.

These Dialogues fill up fast, so don't delay if you'd like to reserve a spot!
