BV Book Club: Why We Believe in Gods...Science of Faith - J. Anderson Thomson

Join us for a fun evening as we discuss the newly released, much anticipated book, Why We Believe in Gods: A Concise Guide to the Science of Faith by J. Anderson Thomson--who was one of the featured speakers at our regional conference this past August.

The discussion begins at 7pm in the Davanni's "Party Room", but many of us arrive at 6:30 to have a little dinner. The evening usually concludes around 9pm after everyone has an opportunity to share their book recommendations and other ideas for group events.

From Amazon.com :

This book about the evolutionary drivers of religiosity would have delighted [Darwin].... One by one the components of religion receive the Thomson treatment. Every point he makes has the ring of truth, abetted by a crisp style and vivid imagery. Andy Thomson is an outstandingly persuasive lecturer, and it shines through his writing. This short, punchy book will be swiftly read—and long remembered. --RICHARD DAWKINS

In December we'll discuss The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence has Declined by Steven Pinker.

*We'll be taking suggestions for future books so please come with your ideas!*

Is anybody else alienated by the lack of bibliography and formal citations?

Not really. I find the Notes section serves much the same purpose as well as serving as a minor 'Author's Commentary Track', which I like.
