See all- The Dangers of Being Too Nice (Dr. Gabor Maté)Franklin Library, Minneapolis, MN
Join our open discussion on being too nice as we explore insights shared by Gabor Maté.

Gabor's concepts in first video:
- Authenticity and Self-Betrayal:
- Gabor Maté highlights that when we are not true to ourselves, we experience a sense of betrayal. We inherently know whether we are genuinely expressing our authentic selves or not.
- Some individuals have an inner voice or feeling that alerts them when they are betraying their true nature.
- Body as a Messenger:
- Our bodies communicate with us. When we deviate from authenticity, the body responds.
- Initially, it whispers through subtle discomfort or tension. If ignored, it progresses to talking (more pronounced symptoms). Ultimately, it may scream for us to pay attention.
- Loving Blocks and Return to Authenticity:
- The obstacles we encounter (referred to as “blocks”) are actually expressions of self-love. They guide us back to our true selves.
- These blocks serve as reminders that our current path is not aligned with our authentic nature, prompting us to reevaluate and return to who we truly are.
- Attachment vs. Authenticity:
- When someone chooses attachment over authenticity, they prioritize external opinions and acceptance (such as from caretakers or others) over their own self-perception and self-acceptance.
- Authenticity involves being true to oneself, expressing genuine feelings, and honoring one’s inner voice. It requires self-awareness and the courage to live authentically.
Bottom Line:
Remember, honoring our authenticity and listening to our body’s messages can lead us toward a more fulfilling and genuine life. 🌟___________________________________________________________________________
