Would you describe the work you do more as engineering, craft, science, or art?

I see my software engineering work as mostly "artisan" in nature. My applications are often science-oriented, but when it comes to building the software to execute the end, I view my work as more artisan.

Do you have any suggestions for software topics you would like to discuss with this group?

What do you see as the most exciting or interesting trend in software? Why?

I think the explosion of multiple-core processors is leading to a future where the software we write must be more massively parallel than our current tools allow for. How this is being handled is consistently fascinating.

Introduction

I'm Nate, proprietor of a one-man tech company. I have a Ph.D. in computer science from the U of M, and my specialties include computer vision, machine learning, behavior recognition, and medical imaging, and robotics.
