In our 5th Mobile Health Meetup, we'll be joined by Dr. Dan O'Connor (https://www.theguardian.com/profile/dan-o-connor), Head of Humanities and Social Science at Wellcome Trust (https://wellcome.ac.uk/) to look at how the evolving landscape of digital health means potentially radical change for the ethics of research.
Social and digital media, from giant networks like Facebook and Twitter, to dedicated community platforms such as PatientsLikeMe (https://www.patientslikeme.com/) and Dementia Citizens (http://dementiacitizens.org/), are changing the way that health research can be done. These changes represent new and complex ethical challenges. Existing research ethics frameworks, developed in the mid- to late Twentieth Century in response to historic scandals in human experimentation, may not be fit for the purpose of addressing these new social and digital research challenges. In this talk, Dr Dan O’Connor will explore some of these new ethical challenges and present some new ethical frameworks for dealing with them.
As always we'll invite attendees to share their experiences too, and look forward to a good lively discussion!
