  • Sunday January 29th , 2017 Come celebrate winter in the Capital. Grab your skates or rent some here and glide along the Rideau Canal Skateway, the world’s largest naturally frozen ice skating rink. Most activities are held on the weekends—learn-to-skate clinics, a hockey tournament, a winter triathlon, children’s entertainment—but the ice sculptures, skating on the Rideau Canal and the Snowflake Kingdom children’s snow playground are offered during the week (except Tues and Wed for Snowflake Kingdom). Foodies will love unique culinary events created by some of the capital’s best local restaurants — wine and food pairings, chef demonstrations, walkabout winter feasts. For the full line up of events check out the official Winterlude website. Winterlude takes place along the World’s largest skating rink, the Rideau Canal Skateway, and sites across the Capital. Close to 600,000 people take part in Winterlude activities – most of which are free – each year. Fantastic ice carvings by artists from around the world fill Confederation Park in downtown Ottawa. The world’s biggest snow playground – the Snowflake Kingdom – welcomes kids of all ages to Jacques Cartier Park in downtown Gatineau. The Winterlude mascots – the Ice Hogs family – are reputed to live under the ice of the frozen Rideau Canal Skateway. Winterlude has been celebrated in Ottawa and Gatineau for over three decades.

The Rideau Canal Skateway is presently closed. Although a thin layer of ice has formed on some parts of the canal’s surface, the ice is still too thin. The water level beneath the ice surface varies from approximately one metre (three feet) to 4.3 metres (14 feet) along the length of the Rideau Canal, between downtown and Dows Lake.

Hi Ruth, what is the deadline for payment? What is the max number of people who can reserve? What happens if the canal is closed for ice skating? What time is the departure from Ottawa back to Montreal? Will there be a cheaper price for the bus rental considering we are a very large group? Thanks for providing a timely response. Donna

Hi Gina. No I have never heard any reply what so ever from Ruth the organizer. I find that speaks volumes as to her lack of communication, her lack of interest, etc. I have withdrawn myself from showing any interest in this event and seriously doubt I would ever participate in any event she announces. I would tell everyone not to pay a single dime for this event, in advance. I like the idea of day tripper events, but think this is totally not the kind of person who should be organizing anything, due to her totally lack of responsibility to the group. :-( if the Ottawa canal does freeze over and is skatable at some point, I would think it much more cost efficient and fun if u organize your own outting, split the cost of gas and actually have friends to enjoy the day with, as opposed to getting stuck alone for the whole day. These day trippers things, all do their own thing, so if u go alone, u will spend the day alone.

Don't you guys get it by now
      She's not really an organizer
She's a travel agent using this site for business which btw is totally against meet up rules
All she cares about is putting butts in the seats on her trip
You're nothing but a number (dollar sign ) to her
That's why she's slow to reply that is until the trip approaches and she's short attendees

The 35th edition of Winterlude runs from February 1 to 18, 2013, so it would be within that time frame.
