Hi everyone, my name is Avishek, although I encourage people to call me Avi for ease of pronunciation :) I have lived in Montreal since 2016, and enjoy exploring the dining options this city has to offer. I am a member of several food-related Meetups, and while I enjoy all of them (which is why I continue to be a member), there are many restaurants that I want to try that other groups are not covering, or I missed the opportunity when they did. I love cooking, and the main reason I pick a restaurant is either because they can make something that I can't (or don't want to spend that much energy), or because I am trying to get familiar with a cuisine. Below are some rules and guiding principles of the group:
0. I will restrict all Meetups to 6-8 people. One of the things that makes a dining experience good is the company. I feel small groups are ideal for generating stimulating conversations. So if you're the type of person who dreads talking to a group of strangers, this group is not for you. We want to get to know each other, so looking at the phone for half the evening is verboten. A typical event will last only 90 minutes, so please make an effort to join the conversation. 1. When rating a restaurant, I focus on food, rather than ambiance (unless the place is dirty) or service (unless it is rude). If you expect white linen table cloths, impressive wine lists, or choose places based on the vibe, some of the venues may not be a good match. 2. The group title includes "adventures" for a reason. If I pick a Chinese place, and you order General Tao, or if I pick a Thai place, and you get Pad Thai, you are unlikely to fully appreciate what the place has to offer. Also, I like spicy food, so if you don't, depending on the restaurant, this might limit your choices. 3. Unlike some groups, I will not require you to attend a minimum number of events per year. I understand that some people sign up out of curiosity, and I have nothing against that. However, I do require that you include a profile picture that actually shows your full face. I understand that you might have privacy concerns, but I will not accept pictures that do not fit the criteria. 4. People who do not show up to an event will be removed from the group. Canceling with less than 48 hour notice will be counted as a no-show, as will showing up more than 15 minutes late.
Now that we've gotten all that out of the way, please sign up if you like what I said, and hope to meet you soon!
