Pace: Moderate -> Fast
Rated: Advanced - We will hike a route to be determined shortly before the hike, based on conditions on the mountain, and weather. The hike will be doable in under four hours, if everyone has the gear, experience level and fitness. Trekking poles, micro-spikes, crampons and/or snowshoes may be required. This hike is not a leisurely stroll up and down the dot, but rather is an adventure and workout and training for the next great adventure.
I know the true full moon is Friday, but this is intended to be a mid-week diversion, thus Thursday...it shouldn't interfere with your big weekend. Climb Monadnock via an interesting route to be determined depending on conditions. Probably from the Old Toll Road trailhead this time. If the mountain allows it, we will take a 4 hour tour up to Mont Rosa, on to the summit, down over Bald Rock, and back to where we started, most likely involving an abandoned trail or two, definitely hitting some seldom used trails. If we do it in under four hours I will be pleased and impressed but not surprised ;-)
I will update the plan as we get close and I know what the weather and mountain will be like. There are a lot of great possibilities. However, I will say again, this will be an advanced hike, because of pace, distance, terrain, conditions, or whatever I come up with for a REASONABLE challenge for fit and experienced hiker/climbers. We had a great team last full moon, and did an awesome loop in challenging conditions in 'under par'.
Meet at the TBD trailhead by 5:45. Depart the trailhead at 6:00 sharp.
This hike definitely requires a headlamp with fresh batteries, microspikes, trekking poles. Snowshoes, crampons may be required, stay tuned. Gaiters optional, the mountain may be wet in spots. Waterproofed winter boots. This will not be a technical climb, but may seem so at times due to the conditions.
