"Enormously entertaining murder mystery"--Philadelphia Enquirer

"Scintillating comedy-drama and one of Robert Altman's most moving and entertaining pictures"--Chicago Tribune

One of the Best Films of the Decade--Entertainment Weekly

Involving mystery comedy/drama directed by the great Robert Altman (Nashville, The Player) and with an Oscar winning screenplay by the writer of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes. Nominated for 7 Oscars. 2001 (US/UK/Italy); 2 hrs. and 15 mins.

Cast: a great ensemble, including Maggie Smith, Kristen Scott Thomas, Alan Bates, Clive Owen, Ryan Phillippe, Jeremy Northam, Derek Jacobi

Plot: In 1932, socialites and friends (including an American movie producer and matinee idol, actor-singer Ivor Novello) arrive at an opulent English estate for what they think will be a weekend of hunting and relaxation but find that they must remain there while police investigate the murder of one of the characters. Upstairs/downstairs class divisions and interpersonal conflicts abound.

Downton Abbey was originally conceived as a follow-up to this film.

*****NO no-shows, please! If you RSVP yes but cannot come, please change your RSVP before the meetup!

Meeting Place; both the building and theater are wheelchair accessible: We are going to meet in new private theater downtown to which Jane has access (seats up to about 15, projector, stadium style seating).

THE MAIN THING YOU NEED TO DO IS TO GET TO THE INTERSECTION OF 6th AVE NO. AND CHURCH ST--SEE MORE BELOW

Parking is available across the street in the Main Public Library parking lot on 6th Ave No., a half block down from intersection of 6Th & Church.

Parking also might be available on 5th or 6th but the library is a sure thing!

*****Anyone taking MTA, to come downtown, take #7; it stops at Church & 9th Ave. No. (after Lifeway announcement) or main station about 3 short blocks away; and going home, the #7 stops about 2 blocks up on 6th Ave. No. The #3 also stops at the main station if you are coming downtown; and right across the street on 6th Ave. going back towards West End. *****

Jane will be in the lobby to greet you or you can buzz the concierge. WAit in lounge behind concierge desk until shortly before the film.

Derek's Additional Directions:

If this will be your first visit, the most important thing is plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking space (I recommend the library too) and find the building.

Also, print these directions or be able to access them from your phone.

The Private Theater is in The Cumberland at 555 Church Street at the corner of 6th and Church. On the other corner of 6th and Church on the same side of the street is the Nashville Public Library.  On the other side of The Cumberland is a UPS Store, then Grill It, then McKendree United Methodist Church at 523 Church.  Subway is directly across the street from The Cumberland facing it.

You go through 2 sets of double doors when entering The Cumberland.   The 2nd set of double doors is straight ahead.  You can Press 6# for the Concierge Desk for either set of doors that are usually locked.

After going through the 2nd set of double doors, walk straight ahead until you can't walk further. You will pass the Club room/lounge on your right where everyone may be if you arrive early enough.

If you don't see them, then turn to your left where the hall dead ends at the[masked] sign.  Then, at the Storage Room door sign - go to your right.  You will pass the exercise room.

You'll see the Media Center door straight ahead.  That's it.  Go through that door and then you'll go through another door that says Media Center.  There are also restrooms there.

Again, print these directions or be able to access them if you are going for the first time.

Thanks and have a great time!

Thanks so much for bringing the great snacks--wine, key lime tarts, strawberry cream cheese and ginger crackers, popcorn, chocolate and more! A wonderful group of people with whom to see this very entertaining film starring an ensemble cast of amazing actors

Sorry I didn't come. I was on the wait list for a long time and didn't know I made it off the wait list until the very last minute. Would have loved to have been able to come. Maybe you can show Gosford Park again for those of us who didn't get a chance to because of the wait list.

Looking forward to the movie! I'm bringing ginger crackers with strawberry cream cheese to share. It's a somewhat English snack for the movie theme.: )

I am going to have to cancel. My sister had had a medical emergency and was admitted to the hospital. Since I don't know if she will be released today or not, I am feeling up my spot for someone on the wait list. Hate to miss one of my favorite movies! :(

I am going off the waiting list. I saw a trailer for this, and it seemed familiar. Maybe this will help someone on the wait list.
