"Alternately gripping and laughable""--NY Times.
"Like eating popcorn with a slurp of rocket fuel... With excess like this you can't help but laugh. This is a rush of a movie"--Washington Post
Influenced in part by Martin Scorsese and Mad Magazine.
Features the most insane climax of any movie EVER.
This John Woo directed film is such a mash-up of intense action, drama, satire, melodrama, buddy movie with the unlikeliest of buddies, hitman-with-a- heart-of-gold (when it comes to his blind love interest) that it is the CRAZIEST movie I have ever seen--I need to see it again with this group to verify I really saw what I saw!!!
In Chinese w/English subtitles. Hong Kong. 110 mins.
The film has influenced Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.
All too appropriately suggested at last year's meetup for "Let the Bullets Fly" starring the ever delectable, supremely cool Chow Yun Fat.
"During a restaurant shoot-out, hitman Jeff (Chow Yun-Fat) accidentally hurts the eyes of a singer (Sally Yeh). Later, he meets the girl and discovers that if she does not have a very expensive operation very soon, she will go blind."
"To get the money for the surgery, Jeff decides to perform one last hit. The cop (Danny Lee), who has been chasing Jeff for a long time, is determined to catch him this time."
"The film's number of victims makes The Terminator or Rambo pale in comparison, but its brilliant visual style and bravura direction earned accolades even from non-action fans."
"Though John Woo's lifelong admiration of Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese, and Stanley Kubrick are also evident in this stylish actioner, the film is essentially a tribute to Jean-Pierre Melville and his cult thriller Le Samouraï." ~ Yuri German, Rovi

Derek's Additional Directions:
If this will be your first visit, the most important thing is plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and give yourself plenty of time to find a parking space (I recommend the library too) and find the building.
Also, print these directions or be able to access them from your phone.
The Private Theater is in The Cumberland at 555 Church Street at the corner of 6th and Church. On the other corner of 6th and Church on the same side of the street is the Nashville Public Library. On the other side of The Cumberland is a UPS Store, then Quizno's Subs, then McKendree United Methodist Church at 523 Church. Subway is directly across the street from The Cumberland facing it.
You go through 2 sets of double doors when entering The Cumberland. The 2nd set of double doors is straight ahead. You can Press 6# for the Concierge Desk for either set of doors that are usually locked.
After going through the 2nd set of double doors, walk straight ahead until you can't walk further. You will pass the Club room/lounge on your right where everyone may be if you arrive early enough.
If you don't see them, then turn to your left where the hall dead ends at the[masked] sign. Then, at the Storage Room door sign - go to your right. You will pass the exercise room. You'll see the Media Center door straight ahead. That's it. Go through that door and then you'll go through another door that says Media Center. There are also restrooms there. Again, print these directions or be able to access them if you are going for the first time. Thanks and have a great time!
