I've conceived this group to be a free resource for those writing novels or short stories. My vision for the group is to share talents, resources, and ideas, and to supply and receive feedback for their work. My goal for the group is that everyone who wants to get published will get published.

The group meets at 6:30 PM to 8:00 on the first Tuesday of every month, at one of the meeting rooms at the Brookdale Library (I'll confirm meeting room details before each meeting) .

My idea is this: everyone has their own talents they'd like to offer others as far as writing. If you feel you have a good grasp on any of these subjects: character development, pacing, proofreading, constructive criticism, mood, poetic language, beginnings, endings, defeating writer's block, conflict, research, or any other writing technique, we would welcome you. Or, if you have any good advice regarding: submission guidelines, the query process, contracts, marketing, resources such as online discussion groups, TV shows, podcasts, magazines or books about writing, or just plain old "how to get published" information, that would also be a great benefit to the group.

I will act as facilitator but I am not an expert. At the first session, introduce yourself and let the group know what kind of project you are working on. For this first meeting, bring one or more pieces of your writing to be taken home by the group (for novels, just a chapter or two). Bring enough copies so that everyone can have a copy.  In turn, also take a copy of any other member's work that interests you. If you care to take more than one, that's fine too. Make edits, suggestions, or comments on your copies and bring them back to the next meeting. We can split into small groups to discuss, if necessary.

Any suggestions for future meetings would be very much appreciated. Some guidelines for the group: Be kind and considerate when offering feedback. Be objective -- even if you disagree with the content of the piece, it's the technique that is being focused on. Be specific about feedback. Do not plagiarize, whether it's from outside media or from within the group. Hope to see you there and please RSVP (click "I'm going").
