Go Medieval on Each Other

  • to
  • Englischer Garten

    Englischer Garten 6, München (map)

    48.156487 11.592548

  • From Giselastraße U-Bahn, follow Martiusstraße into Englischer Garten, then weer off left into the park proper. We're were the open lawn starts.
  • The fighting season is starting! We shall meet and shake off the winter's dust in vigorous combat until about 14:00, then go have a cool drink at the Chinesischer Turm.

We will do Belegarth-style medieval combat in Englischer Garten on the lawn a bit south-west of the lake (see http://goo.gl/maps/5ael9). All are welcome, beginners and on-lookers too.

Bring water and loose-fitting clothes that can stand getting sweaty and dirty. Boots with ankle support, knee protection or leather gloves are also good. We will postpone in case of heavy rain or very slippery ground.

Belegarth is full-speed, full-contact, free-form medieval combat using heavily padded swords, shields, flails, etc. The rules are simple, the weapons are safe, and the experience is the closest you'll get to being on in an actual battlefield of the Dark Ages. Anyone can join, no experience nor armor needed. We have a large number of medieval weapons available, from swords over axes and flails to bow and arrow. Any number of people can join, the more the merrier.

This meetup is cancelled due to rain making the field dangerously slippery. Next weekend looks much better, though.

Hi Lars, thanks for making the call! I would very much like to participate in an event like this. I have never done it before, but medieval battling sounds like good fun! Let's hope for sunnier weather soon.

This sounds fun! Sorry, I'm going to have to cancel for today- I'll be there next time it's sunny! :)

Hey! It seems it's going to rain on Sunday. Will this event still be on?

Normally when it's sure it's going to rain it gets cancelled, but let's wait until tomorrow, cause the foracsting sites often change the forecast...

It looks bad, but can still change. I'll be there in any case. If it's too wet, I'll be there for the first half hour so newcomers can find the right place at least. But if the grass is significantly wet, the risk of slipping and twisting/breaking something is too great.
