Medical care without technology is almost unimaginable today. Technical processes, systems, and devices are used in every area of the healthcare system for diagnosis and therapy.
The special exhibition “People in focus – Medical technology for tomorrow” presents the key aspects of this development and provides insight into the challenges and opportunities we face. With its innovative solutions, Siemens is playing an important role in making our healthcare systems ready for the challenges of the future.

The exhibition

The exhibition begins by showing the basis for this trend. A cascade of calendar pages symbolizes the extra years of life people can enjoy with their higher life expectancy. This creates time for a variety of activities as people age, but it also increases the demand for healthcare. This section of the exhibit also highlights the dramatic change in the age pyramid in various countries that could increase the burden on our healthcare systems. A high percentage of older people means higher costs, as the per-capita healthcare costs for older people are five times those for 25-34 year-olds. The main challenge is thus to constantly improve the quality of our healthcare systems while reducing costs.

The second part of the exhibition focuses on our answers – innovations from Siemens in medical imaging, lab technologies, and IT processes. We highlight a comprehensive approach to medical treatment with the elements of prevention, detection (diagnosis) and treatment, and follow-up care. These elements are explored in greater depth using four case studies (breast cancer, prostate cancer, heart and circulatory disorders and dementia/Alzheimer’s). The importance of innovative medical technology for early diagnosis and intervention, along with powerful information technology for optimizing clinical and administrative processes, becomes very clear.
