Hello I am looking to start a new fun music jam get together hosted at my home every third Sunday of the month at 630 pm. I am hoping to start the first one on Sunday March 22. The jam will be a lot of different Genres and fun tunes, such as Classic Rock, Bluegrass, Old time southern, (carter family tunes included) northern, Canadian tunes (Quebecois, Cape Breton Acadian), Cajun, Parisian and Texas Western Swing, Folk, Scottish, Irish, English, maritime tunes as well, sea shanties Country and contra dance tunes square dance barn dance tunes...and any other genre the group suggests to play. Even though I don't play it much, I do like blues and jazz as well.... I love singers too!!! Even those who don't play an instrument but would love to come and listen are most certainly welcome. Or those would haven't played in awhile and would love to pick up their insturments dust them off and play again. (I know that feeling - but once you finally do it you never look back) I am not a purist of one genre nor just want to restrict the jam to just acoustic instruments, we welcome those who have electric instruments, we are looking just to jam and have a lot of fun and would love all members to suggest tunes they want to play even if it is one I haven't heard before, will certainly be willing to learn it. I play the piano and do piano back for northern tunes and a square dance band. I have learned a lot of tunes through out the years which is the reason why I suggested these genres. I also would love and welcome other piano players to join so I could listen to others play. I have extra instruments guitar, mandolin, upright bass keyboard and fiddle.
I am used to going to a lot of other jams that were fun (and I dearly miss), including Mannions Pub in Somerville (which my then husband rick used to host) and also bluegrass jams at MacMurphy's in Ridgewood if any of these are familiar to other members. The IAANJ Irish jam in Rockaway NJ.
A lot of fun music weekend getaways, I recommend (and I am sure most of you are familiar with) For those who love to play and dance or just listen, The Dance Flurry up in Saratoga held in February, a weekend filled with so much different music and dancing after hours jamming (your head will explode) held in the Saratoga Hilton Hotel, If you are looking for workshops different genres of music, and all sorts of different dancing, I recommend this to everyone! And Fiddle Hell which is held in the first weekend of November and held by the Reiner Family up in the Concord area of Massachusetts. Also Old songs in Altamont New York state and Grey fox bluegrass festival in Oak Hill, New York state. The list goes on and on.
This is my first ever I have hosted alone So please bare with Me! I also thought it would be fun to start a jam in the northwest area of New Jersey as there isn't anything else about really! (Except for those cool concerts Newton Theatre, Blairstown Historical Theatre, Morristown Community Theatre, and the Steel Stacks/Music Cafe in Bethlehem and the cool Beacon Theatre in NY state)
The only thing I ask is that all members should bring music books or a list of tunes they want to share, byob, soft drinks, and their own snacks if they like. I will also provide the snacks though we will be too busy having fun playing to probably think of that. My house itself is smoke free but all smokers are welcome outside on my porches for a cheeky fag. And I do try to keep my home clean but I also rescue animals, and I do have several animals for those who have allergies. I do have 3 dogs 4 cats and 3 birds.
I have suggested Sunday evening as I know how busy everyone is during the week and of course weekends. If members are interested in joining but do not think Sunday evening is a good night for them. please suggest a good night that is and I will certainly try my best to meet on a night that is more popular with the consensus of the group. I apologize that the time is at 630 but like others I have work or family commitments during the day. If you are interested in joining in the fun please email me firstname.lastname@example.org or call 973 940 0712 or text me at 862 266 0824 for more info on the jam or directions.
hope to see you and kind regards
