La Misa Negra @ The New Parish, Oakland
Like to move? Cumbia and Afro-Latin anyone? This local band delivers loads of fun and a high energy dance vibe! We will meet/eat before the show as usual. (music starts at 9pm). I'll let you know where. If you respond "yes" watch out for my email a couple of days before the show. La Misa Negra is a 7-piece band from Oakland, California, known for their unique blend of heavyweight cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Latin music. On stage, they deliver an electrifying performance that explodes with infectious dance grooves and punk rock energy, powered by horn and accordion-driven riffs, a fierce rhythm section, and a vintage-inspired sound. They have gained a reputation as one of the most exciting live bands to emerge from the Bay Area in recent years, garnering a diverse fan base that transcends musical, cultural, and generational divides. What we're about

This is a group for people of all ages, genders and backgrounds who enjoy live music that breaks boundaries, defies genres and crosses cultures. From African to Americana, and Jazz to J-Pop - our ears are open to anything that moves us, or makes us move.

Each month we pick one or two live music shows in San Francisco, Oakland or around the Bay Area. We meet before the show (and occasionally after) for food, drinks and conversation.

We aim to provide a safe, welcoming group for anyone who wants to explore the geographic and cultural boundaries of music, played live around the Bay Area.

Check out past Meetups and Photos to see the range of music we encompass. Members are encouraged to pick shows too. One of the greatest pleasures in life is to discover your new favorite music! My hope is that this group can help you to do that.
