Let's discuss THE LIBRARY BOOK by Susan Orlean. On the morning of April 28, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had been cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual fire alarm. In The Library Book, Orlean chronicles the LAPL fire and its aftermath to showcase the larger, crucial role that libraries play in our lives. Copies of the book will be available to Vernon Area Public Library cardholders beginning mid-May. Stop by the Adult Desk to pick up your book. This discussion is free and open to all; no library card is required. Registration is recommended. RSVP here on or the library's calendar of events, by telephone at[masked], or in person at any public service desk in the library.
