Where to meet: We will meet at the trailhead How to find the trailhead: Head west on US 24 to Woodland Park, then turn right onto Baldwin St (at the McDonald’s). Head north on Baldwin St, which becomes Rampart Range Rd. After approximately 2 miles, turn left into the trail head parking area (right before you get to the water tanks). It is well signed, and is a dirt parking lot on the left side right next to the Filtration plant. Hike Comments: The Lovell Gulch trail starts behind the Woodland Park maintenance facility, but quickly turns into a quiet, secluded trail through pine forests and flower-filled meadows. The trail heads north, climbing gently, for just over 3/4 of a mile until it reaches the main loop. We’ll take the right fork and head east, going counter-clockwise around the loop. This section of the trail climbs steadily through meadows and the forest, topping out on a ridge alongside Rampart Range Road. We’ll take a brief rest here, and enjoy the breathtaking mountain vistas to the west. Next we’ll follow the trail back west, following the ridge up and down before descending steeply down to the start of the loop. Then we’ll follow the trail back to the trail head. Length: about 5 miles elevation gain: between 800 and 1000 feet elevation gain during the hike Trail could be icy in some spots so ice walkers/spikes are suggested.
