Travel on Highway 24 West towards Woodland Park. In Woodland Park, turn right onto Baldwin Street. Proceed until it turns into Rampart Range Road and continue. Take the first left after Lee Circle (at 2400 Rampart Rd.) The parking lot and trailhead is at the end of this drive. There is a green sign indicating the trailhead for Lovell Gulch before the driveway.
We will meet in the parking lot.
Hike Comments: The Lovell Gulch trail starts behind the Woodland Park maintenance facility, but quickly turns into a quiet, secluded trail through pine forests and flower-filled meadows. The trail heads north, climbing gently, for just over 3/4 of a mile until it reaches the main loop. We’ll take the right fork and head east, going counter-clockwise around the loop. This section of the trail climbs steadily through meadows and the forest, topping out on a ridge alongside Rampart Range Road. We’ll take a brief rest here, and enjoy the breathtaking mountain vistas to the west. Next we’ll follow the trail back west, following the ridge up and down before descending steeply down to the start of the loop. Then we’ll follow the trail back to the trail head.
Trail could be icy in some spots so yak trax/spikes and hiking poles are suggested.
