Kayak & Canoes, "Lovers Key" Fishing & Cookout (Fort Myers)

Bruce Gillikin, will be your host on this backwater fishing trip.

Bring your Kayak’s and Canoes out for this one. (Rentals Available) located at the near by bait shop.  But we'll be meeting right up the road, up at the small bridge right after Lovers Key state park, and bait shop area.

Bring own equipment fishing equipment.

Here is Bruce’s contact email [masked]

Info about the Fishing trip. And or exploring the area. Mound Key is a historical "Indian Shell Mound" not far from the boat launch, we will be sure to check that out.

If enough people are interested, (and enough fish are caught) I am willing to bring my outdoor grill/fryer to cook. Those interested should bring a covered dish to go with the fish. (chairs etc…) RSVP is very important for the cook-out, so be diligent and respond quickly.

This is the bait shop across from Lovers Key state park, if you need supplies.  Just minutes from the small bridge area where we will be launching from.

We want to be geared up and LAUNCH by 9:00am! So come as early as you need to, so you’re ready. You can buy bait at the bait shop ( Live Shrimp) and tackle, ice, drinks etc.

Lover’s Key does rent Kayaks call for info [masked]-7788.

But I found another place the rents FISHING Kayak’s. It’s about 30min away that you can rent a FISHING Kayak for $55 for the day. But you have to pick it up and take it to the location. Kayak Excursions

Hi Sandra, Don't worry I may be having some classes on how to fish our area etc. This summer some time. Maybe this will help. It is amazing what people don't know. And with a few simple tricks you will catch more fish. Know what kind of equipment you need, bait etc.

Well, we do use a popping cork that is similar but used in a different way to attract the fish with the popping noise. But normally we don't use a bomber. But I guess you could if you really wanted to.

To all our new fishing friends.
I will be at the launch site to meet those that want to brave the wind and weather. Weslea and I will not be going fishing with these conditions. Looking forward to meeting all...sometime.
I will try to set another date in the future.

Lori and I are looking forward to the trip. She will just paddle, but I want to learn about kayak fishing. Is there a basic equipment list I should have for kayak fishing?

    Greetings to all!,
Weslea & I are looking forward to meeting you and having a good day fishing. Remember, SNOOK season closes on the 1st, so don't bring any home. (probably the only time I will hook one "in the slot").
Not sure if anyone is interested in the cookout. Let me know your intent, so I can plan ahead. There is a chance of T-storm (slight) in the afternoon. but thats Florida. If you have questions, please call[masked]

Hi Bruce, What I really need to get started is someone that can tell me about fishing and I would like to learn on the beach
    thank you

    April 18, 2014

I'm not much for fishing from the beach. Seem to catch only catfish and skates. You will need a rod and reel with a "double bottom rig" -w- hooks and some frozen baits. This is as much as I can offer at this time. Sorry, I'm not the one to teach you fishing.
