Please come early as we leave on time.

This is a two-part hike with the option for participants to do one or both.

Part One – Echo Mountain ONLY

~ 5.8 miles RT

~ 1400 e-gain

~ 3 hours RT

~ Intermediate and Strenuous.

Part Two – Echo + Inspiration Point

~ 10.4 mile RT

~ 2740 e-gain

~ 4-5 hours RT

~ Advance and Strenuous.

No Dogs – 25 hikers maximum – No party-crashers, please. (Everybody has the right to know who all attendees are for the event - NO SURPRISES!)

Part One:

Starting at the meeting spot - we will take the Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain. For those who have chosen to end the hike at Echo and return, you are free to spend as much time at Echo and enjoy your day. For those continuing on to Inspiration – we will only spend 10-15 minutes at Echo.

Note: Part One hikers will be heading back without the Event Host; fortunately, this is a very popular hiking spot and the train of people coming up will help guide you back.

Part Two:

After the Echo break, we will continue with the second part of the hike up to Inspiration Point via the Castle Canyon Trail. This is the shortest and steepest route to Inspiration, going through heavily forested areas with the majority of the trail in full shade. At Inspiration Point, we will take in the view, relax and refuel. The return trip from Inspiration, back to Echo, and down to the cars is by way of the Sam Merrill Trail. Mostly shaded at the beginning and fully exposed the rest of the way.

Directions and Parking:

From the 210 freeway, exit Lake and head north until it becomes Loma Alta curving to the left. Street parking only, most available spaces are along Loma Alta or Monterosa Dr. (First perpendicular street intersecting Loma Alta as you are driving west on Loma Alta.)

What to bring:

3L water, poles, sun screen, energy gels and electrolytes, pain relievers, bug repellant, etc.

NOTE: This is a popular hike for many groups. Please make sure you are with the right one - MHC.
