Actual start time - 7:00am - you have 15 minutes grace period.

This is a residential neighborhood; please keep to your indoor voices until we reach the trail head.

Stats:

~ 9 miles RT

~ 3000' elevation gain

~ 3-4 hours RT

~ ADVANCE/EXPERIENCE STRONG AND FAST UPHILL HIKERS

~ To avoid unnecessary drama, only folks I know will get on the list.

This is the MOST DIFFICULT, CHALLENGING AND STRENUOUS route up to Jones Peak.

We will start at the Mt. Wilson trail head. At approx. 3/4 mile mark towards Orchard Camp, we will take a sharp left and head straight up the very steep ridge to Jones Peak. There is a rudimentary trail with patches of loose gravel and a small portion where scrambling on all fours may be necessary. There are 8 false peaks before reaching the top.

Upon reaching Jones Peak, we will take a 5-10 minute break to refuel and then continue on to Hastings where we will take a longer 10-15 minute break, take in the view, and head back via Bailey Canyon on the West side of the mountain, almost in full shade, followed by an approx. 3/4 mile trek back to our cars on surface streets.

Suggestion:

Come early and park outside Bailey Canyon Wilderness Park (451 W. Carter Ave, Sierra Madre, CA) and walk the 3/4 mile to Lizzie's Inn. This way, you won't need to walk the 3/4 miles back to the cars after this TORTUOUS hike.

Your muscles will be burn and experience spasms if you are not conditioned for this level of activity. YES! I'm trying my best to deter you from signing up because this hike is FREAKISHLY DIFFICULT AND STRENUOUS and definitely

NOT

for the faint of heart. The slopes are

SO STEEP

that once you start, there's no turning back.

YOU MUST CONTINUE

to the top because the steep gradient makes turning back

EXTREMELY TREACHEROUS!

Worst - with the 8 false peaks, folks at the lowers peaks are out of view from those above. Everyone MUST stay together.

~ 3l of water, Poles, gloves, hat, sun screen, electrolytes and anything else to remedy muscle spasms and cramps, energy stuff, etc.
