TBD, Bald Head Island, NC
Enjoy a leisurely day exploring the gorgeous shores of North Carolina as you visit Bald Head Island and the striking ruins of Fort Anderson along the banks of the Cape Fear River.
Depart this morning for Winnabow, North Carolina, a major pre-Revolutionary port on North Carolina’s Cape Fear River. The town of Brunswick was razed by British troops in 1776 and was never rebuilt. During the Civil War, Fort Anderson was constructed atop the old village site, and served as part of the Cape Fear River defenses below Wilmington before the fall of the Confederacy. Today, it is one of North Carolina’s state historic sites and a working archaeological site. You'll enjoy a guided tour and time to explore the visitors center before departing for Southport, North Carolina.
After crossing over to Bald Head Island, enjoy a delicious lunch before your island tour!
This afternoon will be filled with a tour of Bald Head Island. Accessible only by ferry, you'll be escorted around the island taking in the Bald Head Island Museum and stopping at the "Old Baldy" lighthouse. Upon your return to Southport you'll have a little time for strolling the quaint streets before returning to Myrtle Beach.
