Application Support Specialist

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center seeks an Application Support Specialist to work with the Information Services unit to serve support the staff in their use of multiple computer applications, including Microsoft Office. Additional applications support grants management, human resources, finance and accounting, library services, and the Hamner Conference Center. The Application Support Specialist also serves as the system administrator for the corporate intranet.

The successful candidate will have a considerable knowledge of Microsoft applications, a strong customer service orientation, a working knowledge of relational databases and MS SQL database technical administration. The Application Support Specialist will be responsible for a wide variety of duties, including:

• Assisting employees with the use all software applications through troubleshooting problems, and planning and applying regular program updates.
• Serving as a technical liaison with software vendors for problem resolutions.
• Serving as the system administrator for the corporate intranet and other software applications.
• Assisting as needed with activities and tasks associated with the development and maintenance of the Center Web sites and intranet applications.
• Assisting with end-user/Help Desk tasks and requests, especially those in database and software application areas.

Minimum requirements include a four-year degree in an information technology or computer science field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a minimum of two years’ experience in an IT unit, performing a variety of responsibilities.

Customer service experience is required. Help Desk experience and experience with intranet administration preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong customer service skills are required.
Annual salary range is $55,000 - $65,000.
