The Chauncey Creek to Brave Boat Harbor paddle is always a popular one which fills up fast. To enable more people to paddle, there will be a second group launching from the Odiorne boat launch. This will be a longer, more advanced trip involving open ocean paddling, paddling in currents, and crossing boat channels. The plan is to meet up in Kittery with Neil's group as they launch and all paddle together down Chauncey Creek to Brave Boat Harbor where we will break for lunch. From there, this group and those from Neil's group who have the equipment and experience, will continue around Gerrish Island and head back to their perspective launches.
This trip is only open to those with 16 foot sea kayaks with enclosed bulkheads. You must have open ocean paddling experience and be able to perform a wet exit as well as both self and assisted rescues. In addition, you must wear a PFD and sprayskirt and carry a pump, paddlefloat, and whistle. The approximate distance of this trip is 14 miles. Bring plenty of food and water as we will be out for most of the day. Because we need to get over to Kittery before Neil's group launches at 12:00, it is imperative that everyone is in their boats and ready to leave at 10:30 a.m.
This meetup is weather dependent. Bad weather or sea conditions will cancel this trip.
