.NET Developers Association - Westside Message Board › Leadership Change / Searching for Venue

Leadership Change / Searching for Venue

Chris K.
Group Organizer
Seattle, WA

My name is Chris Kinsman. I was recently invited to take over this group as an organizer.  I was a co-organizer in the past with Marcelo Calbucci.  I have been organizing the eastside .NET Developer Association group for ~4 years now and am the organizer of the Seattle CodeCamp.

Restarting Group

I debated taking over as organizer of this group.  The only reason I decided to do it is I have seen requests from folks over the year to do something like the .NET Developers Association on the west side of the lake.  I work over in Fremont but live in Redmond so I can certainly understand the request/need.

I am already doing quite a bit of work to recruit speakers, sponsors, etc on the east side and feel I could leverage this to the west side.  My thought was to ask speakers to do the west side group on a different night of the week, week of the month or month.  Some may decline but I suspect that many would be open to doing the same content in a different location.

The biggest blocker to making this happen is finding a venue that is:

  • Free
  • Available on the same day of the month every month for a year
  • Easily accessible.  Ideally not behind a secured door, require escorts, etc.  If it is behind a secured door I will need a sponsor to escort attendees or provide someone to do so.

I put together a little survey to collect venue suggestions and what night of the week would be best for folks.  Please take a moment to give me some feedback by filling it out.

Seattle CodeCamp

I also want to tell you about a free opportunity coming up next month.  Seattle CodeCamp is September 10th at Seattle University.  It is an all day event with over 50 sessions on a variety of technologies.  Please head to to register and pass the word along to your friends.  We had over 450 folks attend last year and are looking for it to be even bigger and better this year!
