What is your personal history with rock hounding/mineralogy/fossil collecting?

I use to collect back in the 1970's as a kid, I was a member of the North Shore Rock and Mineral Club. Also, collected for a short time in the 1990's. Collected mostly around New England. My 16 year old son recently wanted to go collecting and I didn't need alot of prodding to get started. In the last month we have gone to the Herkimer Mines, Garnet Mine in Roxbury CT., Pyrite road cut in N.H., Moat Mt. Smokey quartz location (in the 70's you could dig a huge hole to uncover ledge, now it is limited to 1 cubic yard) and Fossils in Nova Scotia. Sunday we are thinking of going back to CT. We want to check out some old locations that were good back in the 1990's.

What are you hoping to get out of this meetup?

I am looking for people who like collecting. The more people you know the greater your chances of hearing about a road cut or a new location.

Are you comfortable sharing your own knowledge to enrich the meetup experience for all membersfrom novice to expert?

Looking forward to meeting others who are interested in collecting.
