What we're about

NEXT Gen (Nineties Eighties Xennials & SevenTies Generation) Friends of Canberra.

A social group for the generation of people born in the Nineties, Eighties and SevenTies including the Xennials microgeneration (born 1977-1985). The NEXT generation.

We're a bunch of people from all walks of life getting together over drinks, dinner, coffee, conversation. BBQs in the park, celebrating festivals and occasions of all sorts, New Year's Eve, anything you can think of. For fun, friendship, social networking or just having company. Meeting new and old friends. Whether you're new to Canberra or been here for a while join us and we'll be happy to meet you.

Members are welcome to suggest meetups and to host them. Looking for event organisers interested in hosting meetups.

This is a friendship group so the usual common sense rules apply about no bullying or harassing other members or organisers such as on the basis of personal characteristics etc. It's expected that members will treat each other as you would like your friends to be treated. It's just common sense.

Drinks and Nara Candle Festival

Hyatt Hotel Canberra - A Park Hyatt Hotel

The annual Nara Candle Festival is on to celebrate the sister city relationship between Canberra and Nara, Japan. This festival is a showcase of Japanese culture with art and craft stalls, a stage on which Japanese cultural performances are held, and food stalls offering Japanese cuisine. As the sun sets, a total of 2,000 candles (electric) bathe the park in soft candlelight. Held in the Nara Peace Park just next to Lennox Gardens behind the Hyatt Hotel. Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/464461677485899/?active_tab=about Let's meet beforehand for drinks at the nearby Hyatt Hotel, it'll be an easier place to meet. Meet in the Tea Lounge which is just past the foyer from the foyer. I've booked a table in the lounge. We can head to the festival at about 7:00 with a short walk to the Nara park. The Japanese foodstalls tend to have long queues but there's usually non-Japanese foodstalls with shorter queues. If you come after we've headed to the festival or have any trouble finding us my mobile is[masked]. Note parking will be busy around the area so you may have to park further away on the surrounding roads or across Commonwealth Ave in the carpark near the treasury building.

Come when suits you but I wouldn't leave it too late as food may run out. I'll take a spot at a table the back of the hall so when you come we can meet there. Will try and reserve some seats at a table if I know others are coming. Parking is available in the church grounds, entrance from Gillies St. and in the surrounding streets.
