NH AMC Sea Kayak Training and Paddling Practice

  • to
  • Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua

47 Grand Avenue, Nashua, NH (map)

    42.756477 -71.482628

  • Nashua B&G Club entrance on the ground level at the back of the building - Red Ford Edge
  • Open Sea Kayak paddling practice:

The Nashua B&G Club pool will be open for sea kayak practice for up to 12 boats/participants.

Training: Training Session one and two:

These sessions will be devoted to a review for those who have done a wet exit in a sea kayak with spray skirt and mandatory for participants that have not done a wet exit wearing a spray skirt. Following the kayak wet exit session for the new folks we will begin the process of training or practicing depending upon your current rescue skills and ability. Depending on time available priority will be given to learning how to do an assisted sea kayak rescue (T Rescue) Each participant will alternate as (First) the rescuer and (Second) the victim. For this training to be successful all participants will need to provide the following equipment (A demo boat may be available EMS/REI/ Charles River also rent sea kayaks) either your own, rented or borrowed: - sea kayak with bulkheads fore and aft with a cockpit opening suitable for a spray skirt. - PFD - Spray Skirt - (shorty wet suit if you become cold in tepid pool water) Time remaining will be devoted to self rescues.as follows - These rescue procedures will be our mantra and practiced throughout the spring/summer outdoor development program.

If you are serious about sea kayaking especially if you paddle alone you will want to purchase your own Paddle Float and Hand Pump. I can provide this equipment for the first training sessions.

You do not have to be a current AMC member to participate but we encourage you to join. All participants will be required to sign the AMC waiver. The fee for pool sessions is $18 practice and/or training. You can register on this meetup site but Payment is required in advance via the Merrimack Valley Paddlers Web Site at:

    http://mvpclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=93&Itemid=65 MVP Activities

After you have submitted your payment on the MVP web site you will be moved from the waiting list to the going list.

    Hi folks,
Another nice to have item for any pool session is diving/swim goggles preferably with a nose piece or separate nose plug. Also I should have mentioned a PFD for the rescue session since you will need to have it on when you capsize to keep you afloat. A PFD is required for all AMC sea kayak trips. I'll have a spare available if you need one.

Aaron, Sandy and Pamela. You are on the waiting list because I haven't seen your payment appear on the MVP pool payment site. You need to log into the site at:
    http://mvpclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=93&Itemid=65 MVP Activities

Select Sea Kayak not White Water on the menu, enter your name and email then select the fee $18 for one session or the 3 or 5 session discount item. Use pay pal or a credit card to secure your payment and I will move you to the "Going/Paid" list.
    Thanks.

I found it. Leave the wait list, then come back and it will ask the question. Type "Yes" (only if you have paid on the MVP site)

When you sign up via the MVP pool payment site select SEA KAYAK instead of White Water under payment type. After I see your name on the MVP payment list I'll move you to the Going List. Thanks.

I don't see where I can respond "yes" other than for "Are you going?" I checked the MeetUp post and the AMC, NH post.

I don't think I saw the "did you pay for the pool" either. Can you provide a link?

On the MAP site I'm guessing payment is for "rolling/sea kayak"?

Rolling Focused Option (part 3) If you want to be a “Rolling Focused” student, go to
    https://www.meetup.com/NH-AMC-Paddlers/events/237481455/
scroll down to “join the conversation” post “I want to ROLL!” then register for NH AMC Sea Kayak Training and Paddling Practice as usual.

The two students who show up March 11th with the oldest “I want to ROLL!” comments and all required equipment will be Bill's rolling focused students.

    Rolling Focused Option (part 2)

Rolling focused students will need to bring a sea kayak, neoprene spray skirt, PFD, helmet, paddle (European or Greenland style), and a desire to repeatedly capsize. All equipment must be clean (hosed down at home) to keep the indoor pool area clean. Kayaker's nose plugs (has a cord unlike swimmer's nose plugs) and goggles or swim mask are also strongly suggested.

The rolling instruction is offered on a “pay if forward” basis. However access to the pool sessions is $80 paid via the Merrimack Valley Paddlers white water group.

Rolling Focused Option for NH AMC Sea Kayak Training and Paddling Practice. (part 1)

Bill Voss will be accepting TWO sea kayak students who really want to learn to roll. Intended for the kayaker who still wants someone standing next to them as they learn to roll. Part of each session will be spent learning to roll, the rest of the session students will work on assisted and self rescue skills with the general class.

Rolling focused students must commit to attend all five Saturday evening 6:30pm-8:00pm practice sessions at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua in New Hampshire.

    Saturday, March 11 Nashua 6:30-8:00
    Saturday, March 18 Nashua 6:30-8:00
