What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in both hiking and photography. As opposed to many hiking meetups, the goal is not to set speed records; we will stop to smell the flowers, enjoy the scenery and take photos along the way. Also, the hikes will be limited to 10 individuals so that we won't be bringing too much civilization along with us on the hikes. The limited number of members on the hikes will also allow for more photo stops. Morning hikes will also start earlier than most hiking groups so that we will get better light for photography.

You are not required to be a photographer to join the group and go on our hikes, but you have to be willing to accommodate the slower pace due to stops along the way for those who want to take photos.

The hikes with this group will be true hikes, usually at a distance of between 4 and 8 miles, rated Easy-Moderate through Moderate-Strenuous on various rating scales. So, you should be in reasonably good shape and be otherwise prepared to undertake the listed hike based on its rating. Our pace will be such that we can expect to complete hikes in up to 50% more time than may be listed in hike descriptions that we'll be utilizing, allowing for photography stops. Hikes will generally take place in Northern NJ or the Hudson Valley of NY.

We're also fair weather hikers; any significant rain (or snow) forecast will cause a hike to be canceled. It's important to check the meetup page before heading out for any hike to make sure that it's still on; any cancellation is expected to be made at least 2 hours before the start time.

You are required to post a clear photo of yourself when you sign up so that you can be recognized.

Hikes are members only due to the limit on numbers of participants.

Hiking is always at your own risk, but please wear appropriate clothing; hiking boots or shoes are strongly recommended. Hiking poles are also recommended. Tripods are optional.

Dogs (or any other pets) are not allowed on our hikes.

Always bring enough water and snack(s) for yourself.

Hikes start promptly; aim to arrive early so that unexpected traffic won't make you late.
