Are you passionate or curious about social justice? Do questions regarding injustice, oppression, and war occur to you on a regular basis? Do you wonder what can be done about these and other issues, at home and abroad? Lastly, are you looking to meet other people who are wondering the same thing?
In this Meetup group, we'll read books and articles that pertain to subjects of the military- and prison-industrial complexes, systemic oppression, neocolonialism, patriarchy, imperialism, gentrification, the immigrant experience, and the many resistance movements that have arisen to combat these and other injustices the world over.
While cultivating an understanding of what can be done about injustice on a global scale, we'll also share ways to get involved in our own communities to effect positive change, bearing in mind the adage of "think globally, act locally."
Suggestions for readings are always welcome, and feel free to bring a friend! Book Club meetings will be held once a month, generally in the Maplewood/Oranges/Montclair/Verona area. After a while, we can add fun social events such as movie nights or volunteer projects.
All are welcome!
