Sunset/moonrise wetland meditation walk

Sunset and moonrise are especially beautiful in the wetlands and June is no exception. Come out for our third sunset/moonrise walk of 2014.  The bayous and cypresses will be lush and green, and the frogs will be calling!

We'll meet at the Bayou Coquille trailhead and walk quietly either to the Marsh Overlook trail or the Palmetto trail. Either way we'll have a beautiful view of sunset and moonrise. Bring water, bug spray and if you like, a secret snack to celebrate.

The swamp as dusk gives way to night is magical, especially when we're quiet so we can just soak in the experience. Something amazing always happens! It truly is like a spa for your soul.

Feel free to bring friends/loved ones of either gender to this event!

Can't say enough about how enjoyable this walk was. Loved every moment of it - being in green with the wildlife (the owls!), the sunset, walking by the light of the moon. This experience has stayed with me for days. Thanks for sharing this, Carla!

This was a great walk at through Jean Lafitte. The wildlife were out in abundance, and we got to see the sunset on one side of the bayou, accompanied by the full moon rising on the other side! It was truly magical!

It was a wonderful experience from the moment I arrived- a big brown bunny to greet me to all the wonderful sounds and sights. I awoke from a deep sleep feeling centered and energized. Thanks Carla!

MAGICAL! Beautiful moonlight, an owl family, fireflies, alligators, and a million million frogs. Wonderful company, very restful and relaxing and awesome to share the magic with y'all!

Totally worth doing the "mosquito dance" for this!

I'm very excited to go this evening, if anyone wants to go again! It's a full moon today (last night) and supposedly a Friday the 13th June full moon hasn't happened since 1919!

Moon rise will be 50 minutes later than last night - at 8:40 p.m. Sunset is at 8:02. Moon won't probably clear the treed until 8:50 or so. Just wanted to make sure y'all know that! The wetlands are beautiful - we had an incredible walk last night. Cheers and have fun!

I would love to come but can I bring my 5 year old? If he is ever disruptive, we'll leave group right away.

A ride makes a big difference-I love that walk, too...so if you have room for me and Oliver (5), I would still love to go! If not, I could meet up at city or audobon any weekday you meet after 5:30!

Hello, everyone! For those of you new to the sunset/moonrise walks, the easiest way to get there is to stay on Barataria Boulevard until it goes into the park. The next turnoff after the Twin Canals parking area is Bayou Coquille (on the right), where we will meet. We will park outside the parking area as the lot closes at 5 p.m. I lead some quiet grounding and meditation exercises and then we walk the trail at our own pace and meet up at the end to enjoy the sunset and moonrise. The total walk is about 2 miles. We walk slowly - this is not a hike or a guided nature walk, it's a meditative, quiet, restorative walk. We usually stay out at the end of the trail which overlooks the marsh for a while, watching the stars and planets come out and the moon rise over the cypresses. Usually this time of year we'll hear frogs calling and see fireflies and maybe bats. We might hear owls too! It is likely to be buggy so bring insect repellent! My cell is[masked] if you have questions!
