WW: Lathe Safety 101 Intro to wood turning
Woodturning is a fun, absorbing activity. Almost no one comes to the shop just "putter around" with the table saw or the planer. But, once you learn the basics of turning, you'll want to putter around with the lathe. This sign off course is intended to get those with no prior experience. You will learn how to safely use the lathe, how to take care of the tool within Nova Labs policies, and practice with some of the basic turning tools and techniques. The focus of this training is NOT on creating a project, but rather on getting as much practice with the basic tools as possible. You won’t become an expert with one course, but I hope you will (re)discover that turning is fun and adds a new dimension to your portfolio of woodworking skills. Sign off: Woodshop Lathes Prerequisites: Nova Labs Green Orientation (GO!) **Refund is not issued if you are more than 15 minutes late or if prerequisites or safety dress code is not met at the time of the class. Safety: Wear closed-toed shoes, short sleeves, and eye protection (bring yours or use ours) Optional (we have some you can use if needed): Hearing protection, particle filter, or dust mask. Note: Our follow pen turning, bottle top turning, and bowl turning classes are excellent ways to continue learning in a project-centric way.
