From Zero to Game in Under 6 Hours! In this 2-day 3D modeling and game development class, we will fully model out a game asset, program a character controller, and create a whole game world. Beginner 3D programming/gaming for digital artists and adults/teen who want to learn to create in 3D for the 3D printer or other 3D technologies.
The sessions are on two consecutive days, each lasting about 3 hours each day. Continue working at home between session on your own computer to enhance your skills. Plan to spend a bit extra if needed to finish up. At the end of this class you will have created your own multiplayer arcade style game and have a solid foundation on which to build upon.
*** Download the software at home BEFORE class!!!!
Day 1: Intro to Blender modeling software
Blender is an extremely powerful open source 3d modeling and animation tool. It can be found at www.blender.org
Although Blender is a complex tool with many features, we will be able to construct our model using 5 to 6 basic tools. You will then have the foundation to make just about anything!
Day 2: Intro to Unity 3D Game engine
Unity is a game engine used by both AAA titles and the indie community. Unity allows complete freedom of scripting and infinite possibilities from game development to even robotics. It can be found at www.unity3d.com
We will dive into Code using C# and write an entire controller for our character.
Day 2: Putting it all together:
Use both Blender and Unity to construct an arena for your game to take place and finish a complete game project!
BRING: Computer or Notebook with software installed. A link for installation is provided above. This is urgent since the download of 3D software is large and takes a LONG time. Just think, you'll have it at home to continue learning, unlike with other classes and camps. PERFECT!
Note: Parents do not have to enroll separately to assist. We've found that kids as young as 9 can do this class, younger kids will need parental assistance or may be too young for this class. It is up to your judgement. For kids under 12, one parent must remain in the lab.
