Woodworking Office Hours: Projects, Help, and Tools Practice

Begin learning woodworking HERE! This is an open workshop for beginner makers who want to get stated with learning woodshop tools safely. Adults, women, kids are welcome. Our Green Bay is the perfect place for getting comfortable with supervised practice, and learning to use the shop area of our lab.

Recommendation: start with hand tools, learn techniques, get to know the shop and the more experienced woodworkers who will be there to mentor you.

Do you already have a project. Do you want to get your wife or kids a bit more involved in making? Start your fist makerquest here.

Our weekly meetup is open and welcoming. Meet other hobbyists and learners, get help with our large array of woodworking tools. Bring your materials or there is plenty of wood in the recycle pile to practice, so come on out with your ideas.

---> non-members who come are strongly encouraged to donate $5 to Nova Labs (at the front desk or the tip jar) if you benefit from the visit.

Drop by to:

• tour the shop and talk about your projects

• work on a personal project with supervision

• get help with unfamiliar operations

• lend a hand for shop maintenance

• learn by doing

Age Recommendation: Kids under 16 are welcome, but must be actively supervised by a parent. There are many tools in the Green Bay that are fine for school and hobby projects such as derby cars, birdhouses, boats, doll houses, etc. Bring a project or a project idea. However, like most garages and community workshops, even the Green Bay tools can be sharp, etc. Please understand that YOU are responsible for deciding what tools and activities are appropriate.

No experience necessary, just a commitment to safety.

NOTE: Attending these meetups is not a substitute for required sign offs and tool safety classes. If you have experience in the shop, that is of course useful but not sufficient. To use shop tools independently, you need to be a member with safety certification for the relevant tools.
