Woodturning is a fun, absorbing activity. Almost no one comes to the shop just to "putter around" with the table saw or the planer, but once you learn the basics of turning, you'll want to putter around with the lathe. While this sign off course is intended for those with no prior experience it is also one of only a few signoff classes, and a pre-requisite for the bowl-turning class. This course is NOT a project class, but focuses on the basics and covers spindle-turning; you will learn how to safely use the lathe, how to take care of the tool within Nova Labs policies, and begin to develop proficiency with the roughing and spindle gouges, and the skew chisel. You won’t become an expert with one course, but I hope you will (re)discover that turning is fun and adds a new dimension to your portfolio of woodworking skills.
