Come out and join us for this awesome project class where you will make your very own kitchen knife! The class consists of 2 consecutive Saturdays (8 hours of awesomeness).
- 72” belt grinder signoff
- Metal yellow
- Wood lathe (Recommended but not required)
Safety: Must wear non-synthetic shoes and clothing or you will not be able to participate in grinding.
Handcrafted knives are a great way to impress your friends at holiday parties and make a great gift that will be cherished for a lifetime.
This is a multi-day class where you will learn the everything you need to know to make gorgeous, high-performance knives including:
- Selecting or creating the appropriate design
- Metal selection
- Handle materials
- Grinding techniques
- Heat treating (classroom only due to time constraints)
You will be provided with a piece of rough shaped, heat treated and pre-drilled steel, your choice of handle materials and all other supplies and instructions you need to make your own 4 to 5 inch (blade length) / 9 inch overall paring knife. The steel will be oversized so that you can create something unique that appeals to you or whoever you are making it for.
The class will be a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and coaching. You will be expected to work on your knife between class sessions to ensure it is ready for the next steps.
