Testing Frameworks

Happy 2013 everybody! Let's get started right away (well,
at least before Q2) with a little bit about testing.

Brendan Mannix will be teaching us about several testing frameworks.
Brendan was previously the Lead Test Engineer at Library of
Congress, and is now the Manager of Test Automation at
ScienceLogic. He is going to cover a few different topics,
and can go in depth on any of them depending on audience
interest.

Topics:
* Robot Framework
* Nose (and nose-parameterized)
* Lettuce
* Multi-mechanize

Let's get together and talk about testing!  We're going to hit each layer of the stack from unit testing all the way through stress and performance testing using some popular python frameworks.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I am excited to get started again this year and look forward
to seeing everyone!

    I hope you guys liked the presentation! This is my last plug, I promise.

    If anyone else who was unable to make the presentation is interested, here is a few words about some positions open at ScienceLogic right now. Director, Software Development, managing the day-to-day activities of an engineering team in an open source environment using Linux, MySQL, HTML5/JavaScript, Python, and PHP. Works closely with Product Management and other Engineering team leadership. Sr. Software Engineer for API frameworks; seeking someone with a passion for clean, well-defined RESTful API’s and purpose-built application frameworks; the kind of person who enjoys integrating and innovating with software. Sr. Software Engineer with a focus on multi-process Python development. Ideal candidates will be able to take a lead role in reviewing/accepting requirements, building new data collection and manipulation functionality providing the sophisticated monitoring and management functionality.

    This tech meetup did certainely bring most of the Robot FW enthusiasts in NoVA area and Brendon made a good presentation keeping the topics short, simple & informative. Would definitely attend more if there are in future ! Thanks to all who involved in making it happen.

    Where can I find the slides and/or videos?

    The Mailing List Archive doesn't list any and the file section is empty, too. Someone wrote before that recording worked.

      You can check out the video at http://youtu.be/r-QzJ.... I don't think the slides are quite ready yet. Once all of that is together I'll shoot out a proper email.

    A good survey on a collection of testing frameworks for Python. Not that I understood that much - looks like next weekend is going to be another Wikipedia/Amazon e-book binge...
    Oh well. Life is short - another knowledge deep dive. Send out a search party if I'm not back by next month's meetup.

    One last comment, sorry about the email floods, does anyone have some experience recording a talk? I'd like to have at least semi-decent audio quality if that's possible. Thanks!

    I, much like others, just got let in from the wait list. It starts in like 10 minutes. Not going to make it. Hope someone's recording it, as I'd love to learn it tomorrow.

    Spot opened less than hour before meetup. No can do.

    March 21, 2013

  • David H.

    Sorry, slot opened up too late for me to attend at the spur of the moment (I'm too far North).

  • Nathan M

    Working late

    March 21, 2013

  • Doug T.

    Now I can't make it tonight. Was looking forward to it.

    Due of the long waiting list, are there any plans to record or stream the event?

    March 21, 2013

    • Ryan D.

      We've partly addressed this, and are going to fit as many as possible in the space. I'm also gathering together my professional recording equipment (read: iPhone) and we'll see how that works.

      March 21, 2013

  • Ryan D.

    We found some chairs, and have bumped up the RSVPs! Thanks for keeping your status current everybody. It may be a bit tight, but I think this will be a good event. See you tonight!

    March 21, 2013

  • Ben L.

    Boo, made other plans while on the waitlist.

    March 21, 2013

  • Ed J.

    with regret, have a conflict

    I am interested in "Robot Framework", and using VMWare add-in of Robot Framework (if possible)

    March 4, 2013

    • Brendan M.

      I'm not using a VMware plugin for robot, but I can show you some work that I've done with the VCenter API that I used to automate deployment of an ISO. I'll also show you how to install an external library like the one you mention in robot.
