In 2018, we introduced you to human-centered design (HCD) as a problem-solving framework that leverages kinesthetic and visual practices to serve people through the lens of a visual facilitator.
This year and during this session, we will explore the recurring pattern at the core of any design process. We will observe how visualization, the “mother of all design tools,” underpins every stage of a design process and is a must-have in the designer’s toolkit (and great news for all of us visual practitioners!). Ben and Erin will dive into the greatest hit tool (or few) from their design thinking toolkits -- boards, maps, canvases or matrices -- and we will practice together while sharing our stories and experiences along the way.
Expect to walk away from this session having…
*New awareness of how design thinking and visualization compliment each other
*Insight on how to infuse your visual practice instantly into any design session
*More than one tool to perform a design thinking task
6-6:30P Networking / Settle-In
6:30-7:15 Level-set / Core Pattern Exploration
7:15-7:45 Visualization / Greatest Hits
7:45-8:15 Practice / Recap
For those unfamiliar with HCD and all this design thinking talk, not to worry! We’ll have a few handouts around and work to level-set with a broad brush introductory activity. For those seasoned in the field, bring your best practices and lessons learned to enrich the conversation. And for our recording genius and illustrator superstars, travel light and leave the fancy kits at home.
Our practice will be scrappy in prototyping spirit. Bring your sketchbook if you wish.
Materials provided. NOTE: Please come nourished or bring your own snacks!
