Details

Cost is $7 CASH ONLY. Doors open at 3:00 to start warming up. We'll start playing at 3:15. If there aren't at LEAST 10 RSVP's for this court by noon on Sunday, the event will be cancelled.

We reserve the right to move players to the appropriate net based on skill level. If there is no net that fits the player's skill, we will refund your money and you won't be permitted to play.

YOU MUST WEAR CLEAN GYM SHOES ON THE COURT. STREET SHOES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE COURT WITH DIRTY SHOES. THIS FACILITY USES SPORT COURT FLOORING. VOLLEYBALL SHOES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

There is 1 C+ level net available. You must RSVP if you plan to attend. There is a wait list in case the event fills up. Meetup will automatically notify you if a spot opens up, and it will automatically RSVP you (first come, first served). If you show up, and aren't RSVP'd, you'll be asked to leave.

If you can't make it, please adjust your RSVP so someone can take the spot. If you repeatedly no-show, we'll ban you from attending.

The gym closes at 7, and you need to be ready to walk out with your stuff at 7. Not 7:05.

Please make sure your skill level meets our C+ or higher requirement.

This is not RECREATIONAL level volleyball. You are expected to have some experience playing volleyball. Most rallies consist of 3 hits (pass, set, attack). If you're not SURE this is the right net for you, please sign up for the REC net. We will move players around to keep games competitive and safe for everyone.

Here is the definition of C and CC level for our group:

C: These are recreational players who usually have limited experience or training and/or are just learning to pass, set and hit. All games are in a social, fun atmosphere. Passing, handling and setting calls are not very strict. Most serves are underhanded, soft and hit with limited control. On occasion there are attacks (spike attempts) and typically the ball is softly hit without control, hit into the net or if hit hard, hit out of bounds. Can pass or set to a target about 40% of the time. Most frequently the third contact (hit) is a hand set or bump (forearm) pass. Most people at this level are playing strictly for the social experience or to improve on basics and move to the next level.

CC: Players here know the basics and are learning / practicing advanced techniques and court positioning. With each possession there is an attempt to pass, set and attack (spike) the ball. Passes and sets are made to a target at a rate of over 65%. Players usually overhand serve with some control, and while typically getting the ball in play (over 80%), still make errors when attempting to do so with power. Attacks are more controlled but frequently are still weak (more like roll shots than hits down), and while designated setters are now being used, they almost exclusively come from the front line. Play is more consistent but frequently there are breakdowns in terms of power and control. Players are more competitive here but generally have not played for a long time and have a tendency to overestimate their skill levels and strengths.
