I believe that the stories we tell about ourselves are the way we make up our selves. In the modern world of entertainment, TV, movies, and YouTube, we don't often hear authentic, real stories from people standing in front of us. StorySlam is one antidote. I am always amazed at the depth and breadth of human experience that people convey in 5-minute chunks.
That's why I love putting on these StorySlams.
How It Works:
A StorySlam is an open-mic night where people come to listen to true stories or tell one of their own, around a theme.
This month's theme is: "Busted/Got Away With It...tales of when you got away with it, or didn't."
Arrive between 6pm and 6:30 if you'd like a chance to tell your own story. Put your name in the hat. Storytellers will be chosen at random from the names in the hat. Stories begin at 7:00pm and last until about 9:00pm.
Enjoy some great food and drinks at the venue, Sweet Bar Bakery which is kind enough to donate the space for this event.
For more information you can email storyslam (at) juliesoller (dot) com.
Doors open at 6pm so you can get a seat, find fellow NVC'ers, and grab a bite to eat. Housemade pizza, pastries and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Come early to get a good seat, because last time we were packed and it was standing room only!
Rules for Storytellers:
Stories must stick to the time limit of 5 minutes or less
Stories must incorporate the theme in some way
Stories can be told spontaneously or memorized, but no notes
Stories must be TRUE and about YOUR life!
The event is free!
