St. Mary's Wilderness in George Washington Nat. Forest (Rating: A)

This day hike is planned to be about ten miles long with about 2,000 feet gain. The drive to the trailhead is about three hours from Centreville, so there is a riding / driving requirement.  If the weather forecast on Thursday night indicates snow or rain for the day of the hike, the hike will be postponed to a later time.  The following hyperlinks provide some insight into the area:

More information will be posted later as needed.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to contact the hike leader via the Meetup messaging option or call at (206) 276-5063.

I'm in Fredericksburg. Any chance of a carpool from Culpeper?

    Hi Newt,
My friend (Gaile) and I plan to stay in Raphine, VA, on Friday night and meet you and the group at the trailhead. Is that ok? Just need the GPS coordinates / location directions, if that is ok and when you are ready to post.
    Thanks,
    Linda

Also, I am targeting being at the trailhead at around 10 AM. Assuming cell phone contact is possible in the Steeles Tavern area, a phone call to me on Saturday will be a great way (perhaps the only way) to status where my carpool is en route.
