Catherine Creek Wildflower hike

This is a wildflower hike along Catherine Creek just past Coyote Wall.

There will be frequent stops to identify wildflowers and take pictures. This is the time when Bitterroot blooms. Hike will be about 7 miles with some elevation gain. There are some wet areas. Bring a camera and a wildflower ID book if you have one. I'm pretty good at identifying flowers.

Bring a lunch, water, Ten Essentials, sturdy hiking boots. A hat, and sunscreen as it will be warm and sunny.

Meet at Gateway Transit Center at 7:20. Will arrange carpool there, usual donations for gas for drivers. 7:30 departure time.

Driving Directions

About 90 minute drive. From Portland, drive east on I-84 to Hood River. Cross the Hood River Bridge and turn right on Washington Highway 14. Drive through Bingen and continue about 4 1/2 miles to Old Highway 8. Turn left on Old Highway 8, which is also County Road 1230. Drive east on this road, which is an earlier version of today's Highway 14, for about 1 1/2 mile to the to the Catherine Creek parking lot on the north side of the road.

It was a beautiful spring hike. We must saw more than couple dozen wildflowers. Hiking through meadow was a high light of whole trip.

    Are dogs allowed?

    May 1, 2013

    • Tom

The park rules are dogs on leash at all times. If you can find a driver for your dog, it's fine by me

      May 2, 2013

    • Kathy

Thanks, I have a SUV and can take 4. I'd never expect someone else to transport my dog.

Hi. I am interested in this hike. We are newer to hiking and would intermediate hiking. weve done moderate summer trips and snowshoeing and would aprecite the frequent stops, if they are needed. We could be drivers. We have an outback and could drive. I've never metup before, so am a little nervous. We are shy to warm up, but are really looking forward to getting involved with people of similar interest.
