  • This location is shown only to members

I can get  permits for this Saturday's climb. I am looking for three more climbers that is interested in climbing with me. The weather forecast should be good. The permits are 22 bucks each and will need the money on the day of the climb. Serious inquiry only. I know that we had a storm two weeks ago and I do recommend traction device and ice axe.

This will be a day climb and we will start early when we get to Climbers Bicouvac.

Climb/hike Type: Out-and-back

Distance: 9.6 miles (round trip)

Elevation gain: 4665 feet

Difficulty: Very Difficult

Climb/hike time: 7-10 hours

Please do not expect to be back by a certain time.

Wonderful day to climb Mount Saint Helens. I had one friend as a guest and Rick and Elinor join us. Very solid team. We started at 8:30am and summited at 1:45pm. With all the snow we had to go through, it was not as bad as it seems. We used traction device and I used my ice axe on top of it. The sky was blue enough to see the crater and Mount Ranier before the clouds came in on us. The team is wonderful and enthusiastic. My friend, Donor, made his first summit. Thank you everyone for coming out and making this climb wonderful and I was fortunate enough to get the permits for us. I will see you on a next outdoor adventure.

Final update: One person from our team have to drop out due to being ill. I have a friend that is going to join us for the climb. Please take a look at the pictures from today's climb. I do want to leave at a decent time so we can get our permits in Cougar, WA and head to the trailhead.

Please dress according to the weather forecast and the weather should look good for tomorrow's outing. Bring gaiters, traction device, and other things that will keep you warm. Do bring extra layers.

I will due a mini meeting with you guys when we get to the trailhead to discuss things from safety to the climb itslef.

I think we should carpool together and just only take one vehicle.

That is all I can think of. Any questions, please post it on the comment section or message me. Thanks.

Update: I am planning on getting the permits for us tomorrow evening after work. The weather is still looking good. There is only four of us climbing on this team. When we meet up at the meeting location, I think we should take one vehicle. I know at the the Climber Bicouvac, it can be full especially on the weekends when there are a lot of climbers and campers.

I will pay for the permits first and all you have to do is reimburse me. Cash only please. We have to register the climb in Cougar, WA and get our permits.

When we get to the trailhead, I will have a brief meeting with you from the routes that we are climbing to safety and emergency things.

I will post one more update tomorrow. I am looking forward to this event. Thanks.

You need permits until November. There may not be any park rangers out though. Bathrooms are closed but lots of woods. And there is a bathroom at the Loowit Trai crossing. about 1/2 way up.

I am not sure how much snow at near top of the Helens. We may need traction device but I am no sure about ice axe. Even during spring I never used ice axe there since slope of Helen is much better than Hood. What do you think? We were at Ruckel Ridge last weekend and they put cover over the parking fee collection box and no forms but plenty of hikers as usual.

Might be worth mentioning that during the shutdown it's a free for all to hike up St. Helens, there are no rangers to check. Also, I just learned that all permits were revoked until the shutdown is over, hmm...
