We are looking for a Communications Manager to support the Alcoa Foundation. The position will report to the President of the Alcoa Foundation and will be located at our Global Headquarters in New York City on Park Avenue.

Alcoa serves the aerospace, automotive, packaging, building and construction, commercial transportation, and industrial markets, bringing design, engineering, production, and other capabilities of Alcoa’s businesses as a single solution to customers.


Communications and marketing are essential drivers of success for Alcoa Foundation. This position will develop, cascade, manage and execute the Foundation’s internal and external communications strategy, including the Internet, Intranet, social media, media relations and marketing campaigns. Our communications goals are to build Alcoa’s reputation externally and generate greater employee and retiree engagement internally by creating dynamic, compelling communications among all Alcoa stakeholders – government leaders, nonprofit partners, employees, retirees, the media, thought leaders and Alcoa customers.


This position is responsible for the following functions:

•Directing all Alcoa Foundation internal/external communications in to create and implement innovative communication programs that drive greater participation in volunteer events and enhance Alcoa’s reputation externally.

•Designing social media campaigns to generate excitement for and participation in Alcoa Foundation’s work

•Educating NGO (non government organizations) partners, government and thought leaders about Alcoa’s sustainability work

•Overseeing redesign and maintenance of Alcoa Foundation’s Internet and Intranet sites

•Bringing communications best practices from other organizations and industries to Alcoa

•Managing all public relations around Alcoa Foundation’s programs and assisting BU and regions in their communications efforts, providing toolkits and templates to encourage local outreach

•Maintaining databases of Alcoa programming around strategic areas of focus in environment, empowerment, education and design.

•Tracking media coverage and developing metrics to measure communications outcomes

•Assisting with Alcoa Foundation board communications.


In addition to the basic qualifications, successful candidates will be high energy, creative, positive, outgoing, collaborative - able to forge productive relationships with colleagues and external constituencies. Must demonstrate maturity and receptivity to developing and trying new things and will possess strong presentation skills. As well, to provide expert guidance and input for communications implementation and increase impact of Alcoa Community Framework.



·         Bachelors of Art degree from an accredited college or university

·         Minimum 5 years relevant and qualified experience in corporate communications at a global public company having designed and implemented innovative, successful internal, external and media relations campaigns as well as social media programs – preferably with a consumer products company

·         Expertise in project management


Note other skills and experience necessary:

·         Proven work with diverse cultures and in a corporate setting

·         Experience in international organizational environment

·         Workable knowledge of nonprofit organizations

·         Strong writing competency
