Next meetup on 6/1, Equity crowdfunding and jobs!

Hey hardwarians,

Hope you’re all doing well. I’ve just announced the next hardware meetup on June 1st, and we’re going to have a treat for you. From robots that write hand-written notes, to the latest and greatest bike helmet available. Make sure you sign up!

Events, Crowdfunding for Equity and Product

  • Keen Home, makers of smart home products and previous HW meetup presenters, is exploring the new non-accredited investor crowdfunding path to raise funds towards their A round and they've already acquired about $10M in registered interest in about a few weeks. A final decision as to whether they file with the SEC and open this up to take actual investment is TBD but they've been given the green light to share and solicit interest in the meantime. Here is an article that talks about their experience. I’m curious to see if more startups will go this route.
  • Ily, the company making a smart home phone focused on keeping families connected went live on Kickstarter. They presented a few weeks back at the previous meetup, and their product is awesome. Check them out!
  • Applications are open for these HW accelerators:
  1. AlphaLab Gear applications are open until Monday May 30th.  They provide $50K initial investment (up to $600K follow on), free space, manufacturing assistance, mentorship and free/discounted legal, accounting, product design and other services.
  2. Techstars IoT program here in NYC: http://www.techstars.com/programs/iot-program/
  3. UrbanX smart cities accelerator here in NYC too.
  4. Highway1 accelerator in San Francisco, but deadline is May 30th!

  • If you remember, we recently had Ray present their  new super remote. Rich Besen, their head of hardware, recently sent me this video of their manufacturing process, and I thought it was so awesome that I’d share.

Jobs@HW Startups

Lots of people are hiring – here goes:

  • Electrical engineer at Tomorrow Lab: http://tomorrow-lab.com/jobs
  • Dame, maker of phenomenal adult toys, is hiring an EE.
  • The Mohawk Group, is recruiting a team of engineers for their internal product incubator. You can see their current description for an EE here.

Keep building!

Haytham
